Dominating Melbourne's Cleaning Market with Local SEO

Why this project needed more than a nice-looking website
A website for a Melbourne-based cleaning company offering both residential and commercial cleaning services. Built with a clean, trustworthy design and local SEO in mind — helping the business generate leads from Melbourne-area clients. The brief sat in the residential & commercial cleaning space, which meant the work had to balance brand trust, clear user journeys, fast loading pages, and obvious conversion paths rather than relying on decoration alone.
My focus was to turn the business goal into a practical digital system: structure the offer, remove friction from the visitor journey, and make the next step feel natural on mobile and desktop. The deliverables included wordpress website, service-specific landing pages, google my business optimisation, local seo strategy, each chosen because it supported a real commercial outcome.
The final result gave Lumina Clean a stronger foundation for traffic, enquiries, and ongoing marketing. The clearest signal was +385% monthly bookings post-launch, backed by a cleaner page experience and a more focused conversion path.
The design work also had to respect how buyers behave in this niche. A visitor comparing residential & commercial cleaning providers needs quick context, visible proof, low-friction navigation, and enough detail to understand why the business is credible before they click away. That shaped the page order, copy hierarchy, visual rhythm, and calls to action.
From a technical and SEO perspective, the project needed a structure that could be maintained after launch. Clean sections, descriptive headings, optimised imagery, mobile-first spacing, and internal pathways all help the site support future campaigns instead of becoming a one-time design asset.
This is also why the case study matters for future buyers. It shows how the visible interface, the content strategy, the technical build, and the business objective fit together. For Lumina Clean, the strongest decisions were the ones that reduced hesitation: clearer information, stronger proof points, easier navigation, and a more direct route from interest to action.
How and why we built it this way
Lumina Clean's growth was a systematic local SEO execution rather than a single design win. The website was built as a multi-page local SEO asset from the beginning — not a single homepage with a contact form, but a structured set of suburb-specific service landing pages covering residential, commercial, and end-of-lease cleaning across Melbourne's main suburbs. Each suburb page had unique content addressing local context: references to common property types in that area (apartments in Docklands, heritage homes in Fitzroy, new builds in Craigieburn), with structured data markup and Google Business Profile citation consistency. The review acquisition system was the organic growth engine: a post-service WhatsApp message template with a direct review link was set up to go out 4 hours after every completed job. This produced consistent weekly review velocity — the single most important local ranking signal. Cost per lead dropped from $45 to $12 not because the ads improved, but because they were eventually reduced and then eliminated as organic search took over — a goal that was planned from the project start.

Lumina Clean had zero web presence in a market flooded with competitors. Homeowners and property managers searching for cleaning services online had no way to find them — all growth relied on expensive referral programs and Facebook ads with poor ROI.
I built a clean, trust-forward website with separate landing pages for residential, commercial, and end-of-lease cleaning. Then executed a focused local SEO strategy — Google My Business optimisation, suburb-specific service pages, and a review acquisition system — to dominate Melbourne's local search results without paid ads.
Monthly bookings increased nearly fourfold and the cost per new client dropped from $45 to under $12 as organic search replaced paid acquisition.
Deliverables
What does a cleaning services website need to convert visitors into bookings?
A cleaning services website needs to answer four questions immediately: what areas do you cover, what do you clean, how much does it cost (or how do I get a quote), and can I trust you. Trust signals — insurance, trained staff, client reviews — are disproportionately important in home services where clients are letting strangers into their property. Lumina Clean's site was designed to surface trust signals early and make the quote request as simple as possible.
How important are online reviews for a cleaning company?
Online reviews are the primary conversion driver for local service businesses like cleaning companies. A cleaning company with 50+ Google reviews averaging 4.8 stars will convert significantly more website visitors than one with no reviews, regardless of website quality. We built Lumina Clean's site with a clear Google review link and an automated post-service review request system.
Should a cleaning company offer instant online booking?
Instant online booking works well if the operational workflow can support it — predictable job durations, reliable staff availability, and a service area with manageable logistics. For many cleaning companies, a quick-quote form (submit details, receive quote within 2 hours) performs as well as instant booking while giving the operations team flexibility to accept jobs they can actually service well.
What SEO strategy works for a local cleaning company?
Local cleaning company SEO is intensely location-dependent — targeting searches like 'house cleaning Chandigarh,' 'office cleaning Mohali,' 'end of tenancy cleaning Panchkula' with dedicated suburb-level landing pages and a well-optimised Google Business Profile. Customer reviews that mention specific service types and locations are a strong local ranking signal.
